Seasonal Tips

Be Good to Your Neighbors This Holiday Season: You and I both know that neighbors truly put up with a lot. Whether it’s noise, slamming doors, a barking dog, mud tracks in the breezeway, or a poorly parked vehicle. We know you put up with it to be understanding and to be polite to them. Just remember sometimes it is noise or situations that cannot be controlled. You may think that you never do anything to bother your neighbor, but I bet that there are others that feel the same way you do... and we all know that isn’t always the case. It could be your alarm going off through the wall or the smell wafting over from the pizza you cooked as a midnight snack. Whatever it may be, let them know you appreciate them. So this holiday season, take some time to tell you neighbor thanks for putting up with you. While we are on the topic!

Hustle & Bustle: Fall brings us cooler weather and people start to enjoy all the festivities our towns and other local areas has to offer. We want you to be safe during this time of year with all the hustle and bustle. Always be aware! When walking to and from your car, always be ready and have your keys out. Make it a habit to lock your car doors—even when you are making a quick pit stop.
This is the time of year you may have a prowler look in your car and see your purse or packages. Don't make it easy for them to get into your car. Keep these tips in mind when you are out and about enjoying the fall and winter season.

Winter Safety Tips: Winter safety is crucial for both personal well-being and property protection. Here are some winter safety tips to remember.

  • Check thermostats: Winter is coming and the heat is on. If you are having issues with your thermostat, please call the office. We want everyone to stay warm this winter season.

Heating Safety: Keep flammable materials away from heaters and never leave them unattended.

Emergency Supplies: Prepare an emergency kit that includes blankets, flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, bottled water, and a first-aid kit. Store it in an easily accessible location in case of power outages or emergencies.

Candle Safety: If you use candles, never leave them unattended, and place them on stable surfaces away from flammable materials.

Winter Clothing: Dress warmly when going outside in cold weather. Wear layers, a winter coat, gloves, a hat, and waterproof boots to stay dry and warm.

Emergency Contacts: Keep a list of important emergency contacts. Be sure that you update the management office with your current phone number and email address, as well as your emergency contacts.

Crack Your Windows: In the winter months please be sure to vent your apartment by cracking a window to let cool air in as the new windows are very air tight and changing the air in the apartment will keep the air flowing.

  • Winter Tires: Consider installing winter tires with proper tread depth for better traction on snow and ice.

Slow Down: Reduce your speed and increase following distance to account for slippery roads.

Brake Gently: Apply brakes gently to avoid skidding. If your vehicle has anti-lock brakes (ABS), apply steady pressure.

Clear Snow: Before driving, remove all snow and ice from your vehicle, including windows, mirrors, lights, and the roof.

Stay Informed: Check weather and road conditions before heading out, and consider delaying travel during severe winter storms.

Emergency Kit: Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle, including items like a flashlight, blanket, extra clothing, non-perishable food, and a cell phone charger.

  • Walk Carefully: Take shorter steps and walk slowly to maintain balance on icy or snowy sidewalks and pathways.

Footwear: Wear shoes or boots with good traction and non-slip soles. Consider adding ice cleats for additional grip.

Handrails: Always use handrails when available, especially when navigating stairs or ramps.

4 Christmas Tree Ideas for Your Apartment:

Just because you live in smaller space, doesn’t mean that your decorating can’t be festive and unique. Here are some tree ideas for your apartment that will make the most of your space and maximize the holiday spirit.

1) Miniature Christmas Tree - There aren’t many things cuter than a miniature Christmas tree! Decorate these tabletop trees, real or artificial, with miniature lights, garland, tiny ornaments, and top it off with a little star on top.
2) A Half Christmas Tree - Yes, there really is such a thing! You can even buy a quarter tree to tuck into a corner and they won’t take up half the space of a traditional Christmas tree. You’ll be sure to have the most unique display in your building.
3) The Wall Tree - There are several ways that you can use an open wall space to make a tree. You can hang lights on the wall in the shape of a tree, use decals, or hang ornaments on the wall in the pattern of a tree. Simply place your presents in front the tree for Christmas morning.
4) The Upside-Down Christmas Tree - One of the hottest fads of this holiday season is the upside-down tree. It’s either on a stand or can be hung from the ceiling. This was, in fact, first used in Medieval Europe when people lived in smaller homes. You’ll have more space on the floor and these also come in corner and half-tree shapes for additional space-saving. These creative, fun and out-of-the-box alternatives to the traditional Christmas tree will not only help you to make great use of your space, but they’ll also put you in the festive spirit in no time.
